2021 Oregon Ducks Football Betting Predictions

2021 Oregon Ducks Betting Odds, Predictions, Preview

The 2020 campaign started off fairly well for the Ducks, despite the fact they didn't get their usual cupcake tune-up games to get things rolling early on.

The Ducks rattled off wins and double-digit covers against Stanford and at Washington State early on, and they looked like the best team in the Pac-12. They escaped with a 38-35 win over UCLA on Nov. 21, but things went downhill in a hurry.

Oregon ended up with a 41-38 loss at Oregon State against their rivals, and they were dropped 21-17 at California on Dec. 5 to effectively end their chances at a playoff appearance. They still ended up in the Pac-12 Championship Game, and they topped USC in front of no fans at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, as DE Kayvon Thibodeaux shined as the game's MVP. Oregon has back-to-back Pac-12 crowns, and they lead all Pac-12 schools with four titles.

The Ducks are expected to contend for the North Division championship yet again, with Washington their closest competitors, and California and Stanford also lurking in the weeds.

The offense should be explosive again, as RBs Travis Dye and CJ Verdell are legit stars capable of handling the mail. They'll be running behind an offensive line which returns all five of its starters, too. Former Boston College QB Anthony Brown transfers in and he is expected to head up offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead's unit. As usual, the Ducks have tremendous recruits coming in, and true freshmen WRs Troy Franklin and Dont'e Thornton are the next potential stars. WR Devon Williams is also a speedster who will help Brown acclimate.

It wasn't all rosy for Oregon in 2020, as they turned it over 16 times last season, which was more than any other team in the conference. They'll need to clean up that sloppy play, although they still managed to win the league championship. Imagine if they can limit the mistakes? A playoff appearance could be in their future.

Oregon opens with a tune-up against Fresno State before a marquee matchup at Ohio State on Sept. 11. They're expected to lose that one, so they will take out their frustrations on FCS Stony Brook the next weekend. Then the league schedule starts, and the good news is that they miss USC on the regular-season schedule, and they do not have to face another South Division titan, Arizona State. So the schedule sets up nicely for another run to the league title game. This is a potential double-digit win team if Brown can comfortably fit in.

Oregon Odds to win 2021 Pac-12 Championship

Yes +275

Yes. The Ducks are favorites to win the North Division, and they are a perfect 4-for-4 in the Pac-12 Championship Game when they get there. So taking the Ducks early on, with a chance to nearly triple up, is a very prudent preseason wager.

Oregon Odds to Win 2021-22 College Football Playoff

Yes +5000

We're going to find out a lot about the Ducks early on, and I am dubious the Ducks will be ready for their huge showdown at Ohio State on Sept. 11. As long as they're not blown out in that game, they will likely still have a playoff shot. The fact they miss USC and Arizona State on the league schedule, they could very well go unbeaten in Pac-12 play, and a possible win in the league title game could give them a shot at the playoffs.

But can they win it? I don't really trust Oregon due to Brown, and the fact they were so mistake-prone on offense in 2020. Too many question marks here, but I thought about it hard.

Oregon 2021 Heisman Contenders & Odds

Anthony Brown +8000

I think Brown could look like a completely different player than he did at Boston College under the tutelage of Cristolbal and Moorhead. But Heisman? I am just not feeling him as a long-shot Heisman pick.
