2020 USC Trojans Football Betting Predictions

USC Trojans Betting Odds & Forecast

Four of USC's six games against ranked foes in 2019 ended up in defeat, and if Clay Helton – who many believe is quite lucky to still be called head coach entering 2020 – wants to remain at USC, this has got to be the season that the Trojans continue to take steps forward and compete for a conference crown and beyond.

2020 USC Trojans Win Total Odds

USC 2020 wins: Over 9 (+110) or Under 9 (-134)

This win total mark may not suggest that 2020 may be much of an improvement on last season, but it's not like USC doesn't have plenty of opportunity in front of them to eclipse this mark and shock the football world in the process.

2020 USC Trojans Schedule

  • Week 1 - Sept. 5 vs. Alabama
  • Week 2 - Sept. 12 vs. New Mexico
  • Week 3 - Sept. 19 at Stanford
  • Week 4 - Sept. 26 vs. Arizona State
  • Week 5 - Oct. 2 at Utah
  • Week 6 - Oct. 10 vs. California
  • Week 7 - Oct. 17 at Arizona
  • Week 9 - Oct. 31 vs. Colorado
  • Week 10 - Nov. 7 at Oregon
  • Week 11 - Nov. 14 vs. Washington
  • Week 12 - Nov. 21 at UCLA
  • Week 13 - Nov. 28 vs. Notre Dame

Along with their usual tough Pac-12 schedule that sees them visit the likes of Stanford, Utah, Arizona, UCLA (technically) and Oregon, two of the three non-conference games the Trojans have come against Alabama and Notre Dame – two teams that are expected to be involved in NCAA Football Playoff discussions well into the year.

Head coach Clay Helton has led the USC Trojans to a 40-22 record over the last four seasons, which includes a 1-2 bowl record. (AP)

That kind of overall slate makes it tough for even the most staunch USC backer to believe they'll get to double digit wins in 2020. It makes the 'over' a very tough look here, but when you are a big time program with a name brand like USC, all you can ask for is opportunity. And with the opponents they've got lined up this year, that's definitely the case.

2020 USC Game of the Year Odds

  • Week 1 - USC +14 vs. Alabama (neutral site)
  • Week 3 - USC (-9.5) at Stanford
  • Week 5 - USC (-2.5) at Utah
  • Week 10 - USC (+3.5) at Oregon
  • Week 11 - Washington at USC (-6.5)
  • Week 13 - Notre Dame at USC (PK)

With the schedule they've got, USC games are no strangers to the current Game of the Year Odds board.

The Trojans season opener vs Alabama at a neutral field in Arlington, Texas has USC catching +14 points currently. That will be the most points USC is likely to catch all year barring the season going into a tailspin early, as the other two games for the Trojans on this board and both road tilts in conference play against Utah and Oregon.

USC's date with Utah has the Trojans laying -2.5 points on the road, while the trip up to Eugene, Oregon to face the Ducks has them catching +3.5 points currently. Neither of those places are easy ones to win at as a visiting club, and it definitely will be interesting to see how much the lines change once those games arrive.

In the finale from Los Angeles, USC and Notre Dame are listed as pick 'em for their annual rivalry game.

USC Odds to win Pac 12 South in 2020

Yes (-125)

Even with the overall toughness of the Trojans schedule in 2020, they do come into the year as the favorite to win the South division in the conference. That trip to Utah will play a big part in achieving that result for USC as it's the Utah Utes who are next on the board behind them at +300, but if you are a believer in Helton, Slovis and/or the rest of this Trojans program, this is a future where your handicapping should probably become a bit more in depth.

USC Odds to win Pac 12 Championship

Yes (+225)

Taking it one step further with USC in Pac-12 play isn't out of the question either as they enter the year as co-favorites with Oregon at this price to win the Pac-12 conference title. Again, the fact that USC has to visit Utah and Oregon don't exactly help them in this regard, but if you are high on them to win the division, taking it a step further and backing them to win the conference isn't a stretch at all.

USC Odds to Make 2020-21 College Football Playoff

Yes (+800) or No (-1430)

Competing for the Pac-12 conference title is probably the only realistic goal for the Trojans this year, especially when the Pac-12 has a whole has a tendency to beat up on itself to much to really be considered for CFB Playoff. Yet, should the Trojans knock off the likes of Alabama in the opener, and Notre Dame in the season finale, and win the conference crown to boot, a playoff berth would have to be in the cards for them in 2020. Just not a good enough price at this current number to hope that lightning strikes multiple times for the Trojans.

USC Odds to Win 2020-21 College Football Playoff

Yes (+4000)

Tough to really get behind the Trojans to be playoff bound in the first place, which makes it even tougher to seriously consider this future bet as well. They'd need pretty much everything to go right for them each and every week and that just hasn't been the case for the Trojans since the Matt Leinhart/Reggie Bush days. Easy one to pass on here.

USC Odds for Players to win the 2020 Heisman Trophy

The Trojans currently have two players listed in the Heisman Trophy Odds betting market.

(Position, ACC Player, School, Odds)
  • QB Kedon Slovis, USC 33/1
  • WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, USC 33/1

Southern California hasn't won the Heisman Trophy since 2005 when running back Reggie Bush won the award. In 2004 and 2002, quarterbacks Matt Leinart and Carson Palmer won the award for USC.

USC Trojans – Postseason Forecast

Another eight-win season is probably where the Trojans end up again in 2020, although stretching it out to nine or even 10 wins is a realistic possibility with a few bounces going their way. Yes, they may have to face the likes of Alabama, Utah, and Oregon all away from home, but all three of those programs are replacing starting QB's this year and until the new guys establish themselves, it could be argued the Trojans have the edge there with Slovis returning.

But USC finished 2019 with a loss to #16 Iowa in the Holiday Bowl, and another trip to a similar type Bowl against a program ranked somewhere between 10-20 in the polls is where the Trojans postseason prospects are likely headed.

USC Trojans Season Prediction

USC is one of those teams that you can see eventually turning the corner, and yet, the majority still believe that as long as Clay Helton is at the helm – similar to Michigan with Jim Harbaugh – that it just won't happen. In terms of opportunity and potential, USC has it all in front of them in 2020 with those games against quality foes, most of which are starting new QB's under center, and that could end up working in the Trojans favor.

Get a few bounces in those games and who knows what type of momentum train USC finds themselves on, but from a betting perspective, the best you can really hope for with the Trojans at this point is that they win the division and win the Pac-12 title. Those are the only two 'positive' future wagers I'd be looking at for USC in 2020, otherwise it's likely a lot of “no's” and 'unders' for things like making the playoffs and season win total odds.

Trojans 2019 Betting Recap

2019 was an overall step in the right direction for the USC Trojans football program, as their 8-5 SU mark was decidedly better then the 5-7 SU record they had in 2018. Considering they had to replace their starting QB just a few games in and saw QB Kedon Slovis comfortably grow into his role as the #1 man at USC bodes well for them going forward, but the Trojans still have to find ways to play their best football in the biggest games.
