TEXAS LONGHORNS vs. OKLAHOMA SOONERS BETTING PREDICTION

The Sooners of Oklahoma might be ending their annual Bedlam rivalry game with Oklahoma State once it moves to the SEC, but thankfully the Longhorns of Texas are also SEC-bound, and we'll get this exciting rivalry game each season.

Each of these proud teams limp in with a 3-2 record, and neither side is ranked after some recent setbacks. Somebody is going home with a third loss, too, which was unthinkable just a month ago.

Texas is actually pretty close to a 5-0 SU record, believe it or not. It lost a heartbreaker at the DKR in Austin to Alabama, falling 20-19 on a last-second field. The Longhorns battled hard that afternoon despite playing most of the day without starting QB Quinn Ewers. He was knocked out early in the first half due to what turned out to be a clavicle sprain. QB Hudson Card has done a good job in his stead, although the Longhorns did come up short at Texas Tech in overtime on Sept. 24.

Card has completed 69.4% of his pass attempts for 923 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. Ewers was completing slightly better at 69.4% with 359 yards, two touchdowns and an interception before being knocked out. Head coach Steve Sarkisian could easily go with either QB, and not really make a losing decision.

Oklahoma has dropped the past two games, falling from a top-10 ranking to unranked status. It lost 41-34 to Kansas State as a 13.5-point favorite, which was inexcusable enough. However, the Sooners were pummeled 55-24 at TCU last Saturday, so yes, the defense has allowed 48.0 PPG in the past two games. Card and/or Ewers have to be licking their chops at the prospect of facing that type of ineptitude.

Score Prediction: Texas 45, Oklahoma 38

TEXAS LONGHORNS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Longhorns have been pretty middling across the board, so it's no surprise they sit with a 3-2 SU record through the first five games.

Texas ranks just 62nd in total yards per game with 417.4, while posting 154.4 yards per game on the ground to rank 70th despite having the exciting RB Bijan Robinson. The latter has done his part with 515 yards and eight touchdowns, but he needs more help. Overall, the offense has produced 36.8 PPG to rank 31st in the nation, so they are making the most of their chances.

On defense, Texas gives up a ton of yardage. They're 90th overall with 246.6 yards per game allowed through the air, and just 63rd in total yards allowed as 366.8. They're allowing 21.4 PPG, which is good, not great.

This will be their first neutral-site game of 2022. They're 4-1 ATS overall, with a lean to the UNDER at 3-2 through five outings. Texas has cashed in just two of the past nine conference games, but it is 10-4 ATS in the previous 14 neutral-site contests.

OKLAHOMA SOONERS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Sooners are pretty good in the offensive categories, putting up 481.4 total yards per game to rank 18th, and they're even better with 220.8 rushing yards to rank 14th in the nation. OU can score with the best of them, too, putting up 37.0 PPG. It's on defense where this team has really struggled. I mean, REALLY struggled. It is allowing an un-Oklahoma-like 423.0 total yards per game to rank 108th, while checking in just 118th against the rush with 198.2 yards per game allowed on the ground.

Sure, Oklahoma pounded UTEP, Kent State and Nebraska in the non-conference schedule, but K-State and TCU have each exposed this defense in the two conference games, and if the Sooners don't shore things up in a hurry it is going to be a long season.

Oklahoma is just 1-3-1 ATS in the past five Big 12 games, but 5-0 ATS in the past five neutral-site affairs. For totals, the OVER is 7-3 in the past 10 conference tilts, while going 5-1 in the past six neutral-site games.

And in this series, Texas has cashed in seven of the past 10, although the underdog has connected in seven of the past 10, too.
