2025 World Series Futures Odds: Trade Deadline Shakes Things Up
World Series odds for 2025 are getting more interesting, with the trade deadline now in the rearview mirror. No surprise, the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers remain the strong favorite.
But after that, there's a tightly bunched handful of teams in odds to win the 2025 World Series.

2025 World Series Odds
Top of the Board
UPDATE THURSDAY, JULY 31: The Los Angeles Dodgers are still firmly atop World Series futures odds. But L.A. slipped a touch this week at BetMGM, from +230 Monday to +250 today.
Although the Dodgers are the favorite to win the Fall Classic, they currently have the majors' fifth-best record, at 63-46.
"We pushed out the Dodgers slightly. We still hold them in high regard, obviously, but there were a lot of contenders that made more significant improvements," BetMGM trader Hal Egeland said tonight.
Los Angeles added reliever Brock Stewart in a trade with the Minnesota Twins. The Dodgers also acquired outfielder Alex Call in a deal with the Washington Nationals.
"Call and Stewart may prove to be impactful in the postseason. But it's safe to say the Dodgers didn't make any splash moves like others," Egeland said. "Since other teams made some significant improvements, we view the Dodgers slightly less likely to repeat, but still clear favorites."
July wasn't quite as strong as previous months for Dodgers action, even as public as they are.
"The Dodgers were the third-most-bet team this month in terms of handle, and the sixth-most in terms of bets. Bettors are definitely still interested in them, but interest has slowed down a bit recently," Egeland said.
The Next Tier
UPDATE THURSDAY, JULY 31: There's a notable gap between the Dodgers and the rest of MLB in BetMGM's 2025 World Series odds. Post-deadline, the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees are all at +850 as the co-second choice.
Those three outfits and the San Diego Padres made notable deals for more pitching.

- Mets acquire relievers Ryan Helsley from St. Louis and Tyler Rogers from San Francisco
- Yankees get reliever Camilo Doval from San Francisco
- Padres add closer Mason Miller in a deal with Oakland
"The Phillies, Mets, Yankees and Padres all made significant moves to improve their bullpen," Egeland said. "Rogers, Helsley, Duran, Doval and Miller are some of the best relievers in baseball. Having them all dealt was shocking to see.
"The price for relievers was steep, but each team got better."
Indeed, all four teams' World Series futures odds shortened. The Mets made the modest move from +900 to +850, Philly went from +950 to +850, and the Yanks from from +1000 to +850. San Diego had the bigger move, from +3000 to the +1700 ninth choice.
"The Padres made some other moves and are just coming off a sweep of the Mets. So both are additional factors outside of the Miller trade," Egeland said. "These moves explain why we had to move the Dodgers out a bit.
"The Phillies have been top five in both handle and bets over the past month, while the Yankees and Mets are right around 10th in both metrics. Looking at the whole season, though, the Phillies, Mets, Tigers and Yankees make up four of our top six most-bet teams in total bets, and four of the top five in terms of handle."
A month ago, the Detroit Tigers were the +700 solo second choice. Now, the Tigers are the +950 fifth choice.
"The Tigers were relatively quiet at the deadline. With the relatively weak AL, I'd be somewhat upset if I were a Tigers fan," Egeland said. "The Tigers have been our most-bet team in terms of tickets this month, but are seventh in terms of handle.
"Our Michigan customers like to bet their hometown teams. But I'd be interested to see what happens post-deadline and after their recent poor performance."
Detroit is on a four-game win streak, but that's on the heels of a 1-12 nosedive – two six-game losing streaks sandwiched around one win.
Winners and Losers
UPDATE THURSDAY, JULY 31: Egeland pointed to a few teams he deemed winners at the trade deadline, most notably the Houston Astros. The 'Stros made a deal with Minnesota to bring back shortstop Carlos Correa and got outfielder Jesus Sanchez from Miami.
"I think the Astros, Padres and Mariners are clear winners of the deadline," he said. "The Astros were tied to some starting pitching and weren't able to strike a deal, but the return of Correa and adding Sanchez are great deals for them."
Houston was +1100 pre-trade deadline and is +1100 now in BetMGM's World Series odds.
As noted above, San Diego nabbed closer Mason Miller among a few moves. The Seattle Mariners reunited with third baseman Eugenio Suarez in a Wednesday trade with Arizona, on the heels of getting infielder Josh Naylor from the Diamondbacks.
"The Padres made several significant moves. General manager A.J. Preller is certainly not afraid to go for it," Egeland said. "In my opinion, the Mariners solidified themselves as a legitimate contender in the AL. They needed bats, and they got two of the best on the market."
Egeland deemed a couple more teams deadline losers.
"Other than the Tigers, I have to throw in the Boston Red Sox as a loser this deadline. They were linked to [Twins starter] Joe Ryan late, but seemingly nothing was close," Egeland said, before noting a deadline deal to get starter Dustin May from the Dodgers. "May has always had potential, but there was room to improve the roster more."
Boston is +2500, the co-12th choice with Texas.
"The Brewers and Cubs also could have done more," Egeland said. "Maybe the prices were too high, but you would have expected them to try to improve, with their division race and other teams in the NL stacking up."
Milwaukee leads the NL Central and in fact has MLB's best record at 64-44. But Chicago is right behind at 63-45.
Flying Under the Radar
UPDATE THURSDAY, JULY 31: An hour after the trade deadline passed, you have to tip your cap to the Texas Rangers. Ten days ago, the Rangers were a distant +6600 to win the World Series at BetMGM. By Monday morning, those odds were cut nearly in half, to +3500.
Now, in the wake of the deadline, Texas is the +2500 co-12th choice. Granted, there's a long way to go, but the Rangers (57-52) are clearly gunning for the playoffs.
Texas acquired starter Merrill Kelly (9-6, 3.22 ERA) in a deadline deal today with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Kelly is a solid third option for the Rangers, behind Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi. Texas also added reliever Phil Maton in a trade with Philadelphia.
"The Rangers grabbed Kelly as one of the few starters to move, and they have been playing better as of late," Egeland said. "They were a favorite of the BetMGM trading room in the offseason as a sleeper, haven't played their best, but are still in contention.
"The AL West has a formidable top three, with the Astros, Mariners and Rangers. I wouldn't count out any of them."
Texas (57-52) is currently tied with Seattle for the third AL Wild Card slot. The Rangers are 7-2 in their last nine games.
As mentioned above, Egeland wasn't impressed by Milwaukee at the trade deadline. But he deems the Brew Crew a potentially worthy under-the-radar play at +1800.

World Series Odds
The MLB World Series takes place in late October and is often referred to as the Fall Classic. World Series futures odds for each season are made shortly after the conclusion of the previous season, and sometimes even sooner.
Since the MLB regular season is the longest of the four major sports, bookmakers don’t make one team a decisive favorite over another prior to the season. You’ll usually see three to four teams have World Series Odds of +1000 or less.
The majority of the MLB teams will have future odds ranging from +1000 to +7000 or so. Then you start to get into longer shots, with some teams at +20000 (200/1) or more.
How Do I Bet On The World Series?
It’s very simple to bet on the World Series, since the MLB futures odds market is always open for business. To figure out your Win Amount, a bettor would take the betting odds offered on a team and multiply by the amount wagered.
For example: The Yankees are +700 (7/1) to win the World Series. A $100 wager would profit $700, for a total payout of $800.
