LOS ANGELES KINGS vs. CALGARY FLAMES PREDICTIONS

The Kings were tripped up 4-3 in a shootout on Wednesday night in the first of a three-game Western Canada road trip, and now Los Angeles must turn around and face the first-place team in the Pacific Division on no rest. This will be the first meeting between the teams since the Flames won 3-2 behind Jacob Markstrom at Crypto.com Arena in L.A. on Dec. 2 as the UNDER connected. These teams will meet again on April 4 back in Southern California.

The Flames sit in first place in the Pacific Division with 88 points through 66 games, while the Kings are a distant second with 82 points in 69 games. The Flames have a plus-70 goal differential, while the Kings have managed a plus-1 goal differential. The difference between first and second might be just six points, but really it's quite a gulf.

LOS ANGELES KINGS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 36-23-10
  • ATS: 41-28
  • O/U: 31-36-2

The Kings took a 1-0 lead in Edmonton last night, breaking the ice with 2:46 of the first period. The Oilers rattled off three consecutive goals to take the 3-1 lead, but then the Kings fired back with a pair of goals within 14 seconds early in the second to make it 3-3 with an unassisted goal by Quinton Byfield and Carl Grundstrom. OVER bettors liked that offensive outburst, and they were lucky to get it, as the spigot shut tight, and we didn't have another tally until the shootout.

Los Angeles has dropped three of the past four games, going 1-1-2 with a pair of shootout losses. However, the regulation loss was against the non-playoff Seattle Kraken, and the other shootout loss was against the Chicago Blackhawks. Not a good time to play perhaps your worst hockey since October.

Despite the SOL, the Kings are still 9-4 in the past 13 games on the road, while going 4-1 in the past five outings after going to overtime or a shootout in the previous day. The Kings are 5-0 in the past five when playing on no rest, too, so that's the good news. The bad news is the Kings are 3-8 in the past 11 against Western Conference teams, and 2-5 in the past seven as an underdog.

CALGARY FLAMES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 40-18-8
  • ATS: 36-30
  • O/U: 33-28-5

The Flames lost a Western Conference first-place showdown against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday, falling 2-1 in an entertaining game. Jacob Markstrom couldn't solve Valeri Nichushkin, as he had a pair of power-play goals. That was it. Markstrom made 28 saves on 30 shots in the hard-luck loss.

Calgary has picked up 20 victories in 27 games, including nine wins in the past 12 against teams with a winning record while going 20-6 in the past 26 as a favorite. The Flames have also posted 17 wins in the past 22 home outings, too.

In terms of the totals, the OVER is 3-1-1 in the past five games overall, while going 3-1-1 in the past five as a favorite, too. The OVER is 4-1 in the past five against Pacific Division outings, while going 3-1-1 in the past five against Western Conference clubs.

The Kings are 5-0 in the past five games when playing in the second end of a back-to-back. (AP)

LOS ANGELES KINGS vs. CALGARY FLAMES BETTING CONCLUSION

The Kings are looking for the bounce-back game to keep their flickering division title hopes alive. They're also trying to hold off the Edmonton Oilers from overtaking them for second place, and last night's game certainly didn't help matters.

The Flames are playing much better hockey right now, even after a setback to the Colorado Avalanche last time out. The Kings are not the Avalanche, or anything close to it at the moment. Calgary has the huge advantage in goal differential over Los Angeles, and the Flames didn't just play last night. Even though L.A. is 5-0 in the past five in the second end of a back-to-back, four of the games were against Eastern Conference teams, and the other win was against the Arizona Coyotes. The Flames are going to shut them down, and are worth a small-unit play on the puck line, too.
