BOSTON BRUINS vs. CAROLINA HURRICANES PREDICTIONS

These teams met three times during the regular season, with the Hurricanes winning the only meeting in Raleigh way back on Oct. 28, 2021 by a 3-0 score behind a 33-save shutout from Frederik Andersen. Carolina also blew out Boston at TD Garden on Jan. 18 by a 7-1 count, and 6-0 on Feb. 10 as moderate favorites, also in the State of Massachusetts.

While the Bruins have been clubbed by the Hurricanes during the regular season, they can take solace in the fact they've won three of the previous four meetings in a playoff series since relocating from Hartford, as well as each of the two meetings between the Whalers and Bruins in the early 1990's. In fact, Boston has won eight of the past nine head-to-head playoff games dating back to the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals.

BOSTON BRUINS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 51-26-5
  • ATS: 33-49
  • O/U: 36-39-7

The Bruins had won four in a row from April 23-28 before losing the regular-season finale in Toronto by a 5-2 count. Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark had split the final six starts, and Ullmark is penciled in for the Game 1 start in Carolina. He has won each of his past three starts, including a 5-0 win against the Buffalo Sabres on April 28.

Ullmark made one start against the Hurricanes on Feb. 10 in Boston, and he coughed up six goals on 43 shots in a 6-0 loss. He also appeared in relief, stopping 20 of the 22 shots he faced in the final two periods.

CAROLINA HURRICANES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 54-20-8
  • ATS: 41-41
  • O/U: 37-41-4

The Hurricanes enter the postseason with some questions in between the pipes, as Frederik Andersen is banged up, so Antti Raanta is expected to start, with rookie Pyotr Kochetkov serving as the backup. Raanta didn't face the B's during the regular season.

Carolina finished up the regular season on a six-game win streak despite the injury to Andersen. That includes three wins by Raanta and three wins by Kochetkov, although each of Raanta's wins came against non-playoff teams, so use caution.

BOSTON BRUINS vs. CAROLINA HURRICANES PREDICTIONS

The Hurricanes blasted the Bruins in all three meetings by a combined score of 16-1. Was Carolina that dominant against Boston this season, or was it simply a fluke? We'll find out in a hurry on Monday. I expect this series to get off to a very, very slow start. In fact, I think I like the UNDER 1.5 (-125) line for the first period the most of anything on the board for this series opener.

Carolina might have won each of the three regular-season meetings with relative ease, but you can expect the battle-tested Boston side to come in hot, and make it a very close game. In fact, an overtime game in this series opener wouldn't be shocking.
