Betting on the Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames have had several rivalries in the franchise’s time in the NHL. As such, they have a loyal group of fans backing them through each and every game. Now is a great time to learn all about the ins and outs of Calgary Flames betting.

History of the Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames are a National Hockey League competing team based out of Calgary. The team is in the Western Conference in the Pacific Division. The franchise is actually the third professional ice hockey team to play for the city of Calgary, after the Calgary Tigers and the Calgary Cowboys.

There are actually two teams in the NHL that are based out of Alberta, the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. In 1972, the team was founded, originally in Atlanta, and known as the Atlanta Flames. In 1980, the team relocated to Calgary and played its first three seasons at the Stampede Corral before 1983 when the home base moved to the Scotiabank Saddledome.

In the 1985-1986 season, the Calgary Flames earned the honor of being the first NHL team from Calgary to compete for the Stanley Cup Championship since the Calgary Tigers in their 1923-1924 season. The Calgary Flames were able to win their first and only Stanley Cup Championship for their 1988-1989 season.

The Flames also had a notable season in 2004 with their run to the Stanley Cup Finals, which gave rise to the Red Mile. In 2011, the franchise both hosted and won the second Heritage Classic outdoor game. The Calgary Flames have also been the NHL’s top regular-season team, winning the Presidents’ Trophy two separate times. And, they have earned seven division championships.

Eleven players for the Calgary Flames have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Some of the most notable players for the team have been Jarome Iginla, the team leader in games played, goals and points, and Miikka Kiprusoff, who has the most wins by a goaltender for the Flames.

Because of the two teams’ proximity to each other, the Calgary Flames have a rivalry with the Edmonton Oilers. Their rivalry is known as the Battle of Alberta.

A bet you will see pretty often when it comes to the NHL is a moneyline bet. A moneyline bet is looking to choose the team that will be the winners at the end of the match up. Here is an example of what a typical moneyline bet could look like:

  • Calgary Flames: -115
  • Edmonton Oilers: +115

Using this example, the favored team to win looks like the Calgary Flames with odds of -115. That means for every $1 one is looking to win, one would need to risk $1.15, to bet $115 to win $100. The underdog franchise in this game, the Edmonton Oilers, has odds of +115. That means for every $1 risked, one could win $1.15, to bet $100 to win $115.
