Betting on the Columbus Blue Jackets
The NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets were part of the league’s expansion plans at the turn of the current century. Centrally located in the state as Ohio’s Capital, Columbus continues to grow in popularity as a Midwest NHL betting team.
Columbus Blue Jackets Overview
Columbus was awarded an NHL franchise ahead of the 2000/2001 regular season. The Blue Jackets filled a much needed hole in the league’s US blueprint for Midwest teams.
Behind veteran NHL head coach Ken Hitchcock, the Blue Jackets made their first postseason appearance in 2009. From 2013 through the 2019/2020 season, Columbus qualified for the playoffs in the Metropolitan Division in five of those seven seasons.
Postseason success has been hard to come by over the past two decades. A first-round victory in the 2019 NHL playoffs has been the team’s only best-of-seven series win. Despite the team’s early exits from the playoffs, the Blue Jackets remain committed to building a team that can successfully compete for a Stanley Cup Championship.
Columbus continues to enjoy a strong local following among avid hockey fans. A few of the more notable NHL players to ever wear a Blue Jackets’ jersey include Sergei Bobrovsky, Rick Nash, Cam Atkinson and Marc Denis.
The team has spent time in both the Eastern Conference’s Metro Division and the Western Conference’s Central Division.
Playing in both divisions, Columbus has picked up a few natural rivalries along the way. The Metro’s Pittsburgh Penguins to the east fits the bill. You could also add the Central Division’s St. Louis Blues, Chicago Black Hawks and Nashville Predators to that list.
Betting Blue Jackets’ games draws interest at legal online sportsbooks offering individual game prop bet options. A good example of a popular player prop are posted odds for scoring a goal in the team’s next game.
For example, the prop odds to score a goal by the team’s highest goal scorer might be set at +135 for YES and -155 for NO. Betting $100 on YES would return $135 if that player goes on to score a goal in that game.
Betting in Ohio remains illegal for now.

Betting on the Columbus Blue Jackets in Ohio
The state of Ohio passed the necessary legislation for legal retail and online sports betting in December of 2021. Despite the new gaming laws, it remains illegal to wager on Columbus Blue Jackets’ games for the current 2021/2022 NHL season.
State lawmakers and Ohio gaming regulators continue to work through the regulatory process to launch legal sportsbooks. Once live, the Blue Jackets will no doubt be an attractive betting option for in-state Ohio sports fans.
