USA Odds To Win World Cup
International soccer doesn’t get bigger than the World Cup and USA is seeking its best ever result in Qatar this winter. Sports betting sites suggest there is a very small chance USA wins the World Cup – but those odds could tumble if Gregg Berhalter’s team gets off to a winning start.
USA qualified for the World Cup after placing third in the CONCACAF qualification pool. They join Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica in representing North America in Qatar this winter.
This will be the ninth time USA has featured at the World Cup. And it’s perhaps the country’s best chance of winning the tournament since the inaugural World Cup in 1930, when they reached the semi-finals.
Soccer has changed quite a bit over the preceding 92 years and the USA team has a lot of catching up to do with teams in Europe and South America. But successfully escaping the group stage at the two of the past three World Cups will have the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Christian Pulisic and DeAndre Yedlin confident this team can make an impression come November.

The USA World Cup odds don’t exactly suggest this team is about to win the trophy. At +10000, USA is behind the likes of Senegal, Uruguay, Denmark and Croatia to claim victory in Qatar.
But sportsbooks believe this team can escape Group B. USA is +100 to progress out of the group stage and reach the knockout rounds. To do that the team will likely have to beat Iran and Wales, and perhaps even claim a tie with England.
Can they go all the way? Probably not. Some of the competing teams at the World Cup have some seriously talented players – and while USA’s soccer strength is growing, it’s still no match for many European and South American nations.
USA Path To Final
USA began its World Cup qualification campaign in CONCACAF’s third round, which began in November 2021 with a 0-0 tie in El Salvador. The team then tied Canada 1-1 in a thrilling game against these two North American heavyweights. Berhalter then oversaw wins against Honduras, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Mexico, which got the team into a strong position in the group. The top three qualified automatically for the World Cup. And USA did that thanks to superior goal difference over Costa Rica, despite the USMNT losing to their rivals in the final game of the group.
Pot Draw
USA was seeded in Pot 2 for the World Cup, alongside teams like Germany, Denmark and Mexico. It meant the team is theoretically the second-strongest in their group.
Group Stage
Officials conducted the World Cup draw last winter and USA were placed in Group B alongside top seeds England, as well as Wales and Iran. This is no easy group. England reached the Euro 2020 final last summer, while Wales is a dangerous team. USA vs Iran will also likely be a feisty encounter.
Potential Knockout Stage Games
If USA is to progress out of Group B the team ideally needs to beat Wales and Iran. Assuming they finish second, USA would play the winners of Group A, which should be Netherlands. After that is could be Argentina in the quarter-finals, and Brazil in the semi-finals. If they somehow get over those hurdles, a final against either England or France could await.
