Baltimore Ravens vs. Cleveland Browns Predictions

The Browns just faced the Ravens in Week 12 on Sunday night in Baltimore, had a bye, and then face them again. The last time a team faced the same opponent in consecutive regular-season games was during the 1991 season. Cleveland is hoping things work out a little better than they did in Baltimore two weeks ago, as they turned over QB Lamar Jackson four times, but still ended up on the short end of a 16-10 loss.

Cleveland was able to generate just 40 rushing yards on 17 attempts against the Ravens, while Baltimore managed 148 yards on the ground, beating the Browns at their own game. The Browns held a 222-to-155 advantage in passing yards, with no interceptions to four for the Ravens. But the Browns did fumble twice, so the turnover differential was just two. Still, Cleveland should have been able to seize the opportunities they were presented, and they just came up well short. It's likely they won't see as many gifts from the Baltimore passer-runner this time around.

The Ravens didn't have a bye in Week 13 like the Browns, but Baltimore also didn't win. They went to Pittsburgh and had a heartbreaking 20-19 loss. The Ravens entered the fourth quarter clinging to a 10-3 lead. The Steelers closed it to 13-12 midway through the fourth, and they went ahead 20-13 with 1:48 to go in regulation when Ben Roethlisberger hit Diontae Johnson for a 5-yard score, and rookie Pat Freiermuth added the two-point conversion to make it 20-13 in their favor. With 12 seconds left, Jackson rallied the team with a 6-yard strike to Sammy Watkins. Instead of taking the game-tying point after, head coach John Harbaugh rolled the dice and Jackson was just unable to connect with a wide-open TE Mark Andrews in the flat, falling 20-19.

Baltimore Ravens Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 8-4
  • ATS: 5-7
  • O/U: 5-7
  • ATS - Home: 3-3
  • ATS - Away: 2-4

The Ravens were looking for a season-high third straight cover last week in Pittsburgh, but it was not going to happen. They were laying four, and bettors were hoping after three quarters to finally see some offense, but Baltimore was really struggling. Their loss was the gain of UNDER bettors, who hit a winning ticket with Baltimore for the fourth consecutive week, including the first meeting with Cleveland.

Baltimore is normally more than happy to flip the calendar from November to December, as it is 9-1 ATS in the past 10 games in the month of December. But that lone non-cover was last week, so maybe 2021 is when they come back to Earth against the number in this calendar month. They're also 8-2 ATS in the past 10 as a road underdog, and 15-5-1 ATS in the past 21 games overall as an underdog, so there are a lot of trends in their favor. The Ravens are also 9-3 ATS across the past 12 inside the division, but just 2-5 ATS in the past seven on the road.

As far as the total is concerned, the UNDER is 4-0 in the past four games overall, while hitting in each of the past five on the road. The UNDER is also 5-0 in the past five as a road underdog.

Cleveland Browns Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 6-6
  • ATS: 5-7
  • O/U: 6-6
  • ATS - Home: 2-4
  • ATS - Away: 3-3

The Browns have alternated straight-up wins and losses in the past seven games, and lost to Baltimore last time out. If you believe in those kind of circumstantial trends, a win is coming on Sunday. But it doesn't quite work like that, especially when the Browns are facing the kryptonite, err...Ravens. The one thing the Browns have in their favor is that they're the favorites, as the underdog is 0-4 ATS in the past four meetings in this series.

Cleveland has had their struggles overall, too, going just 2-10-1 ATS in the past 13 home games against Baltimore, with the road team going 16-7-1 ATS in the past 24 in this series. The Browns have failed to cover in the past four in this series, too.

The Ravens are an impressive 10-2-1 ATS in the past 13 trips to Cleveland. (AP)

Baltimore Ravens vs. Cleveland Browns Betting Conclusion

The Browns have not performed to immense preseason expectations after making a playoff run last season, and yes, injuries can be to blame a bit. But everybody is banged up in the NFL at some point. The Ravens headed into the regular season losing their top two running backs, but fought through it. Cleveland has shown a little fight, sometimes, and other times, not so much. It's time for a huge 'shut up' game for all of the critics, especially coming off of a bye, but the Browns would probably rather see anybody but the Cleveland killer Ravens waiting to play on Sunday.

While it isn't going to be like that crazy New England-Buffalo Monday nighter last week, you can expect the chilly December wind to be howling off of Lake Erie at a 16-20 mph clip with temperatures in the low 40's. That is going to keep the teams from passing a ton, which is probably just fine with both teams. Look for plenty of ground-based offense, with scoring at a premium, just the way you expect AFC North football to be.
