Detroit Pistons Odds & Betting Guide: 2026-27 Season

Detroit finished 2025-26 at 60-22, won the Central Division for the first time since 2008 and took the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed. Books opened last season with the Pistons’ win total at 46.5, so Detroit cleared the number by 13.5 games. The market spent most of last season catching up, and the 2026-27 numbers show how far it now thinks it overshot. Follow every Pistons line on VI’s NBA odds board.

The postseason went the other way. Detroit fell behind the eighth-seeded Orlando Magic 3-1 in the first round, won three straight to take the series, then won the first two games of the conference semifinals against Cleveland. The Cavaliers took four of the next five and closed the series with a 125-94 win at Little Caesars Arena in Game 7.

J.B. Bickerstaff enters his third season after the Pistons extended his contract in May. He has gone 104-60 across two regular seasons in Detroit, and the National Basketball Coaches Association named him its 2026 Coach of the Year. Trajan Langdon remains president of basketball operations.

Detroit traded Isaiah Stewart to Memphis in a six-team deal that brought in John Collins on a three-year, $51 million contract, and Tobias Harris signed with San Antonio. Caris LeVert and Marcus Sasser also left, while shooter Isaiah Joe, Taurean Prince, and No. 17 pick Ebuka Okorie arrived. The Pistons locked up both young pillars: Ausar Thompson signed a five-year, $155 million extension, and third-team All-NBA center Jalen Duren signed a five-year, $200 million deal on Oct. 1 after a restricted free agency that ran into training camp. Cade Cunningham, who averaged 23.9 points and 9.9 assists, still runs everything.

Eastern Conference and Central Division context

Detroit sits in the East’s second tier. DraftKings lists the Pistons at +800 on its Eastern Conference odds board, behind the Knicks (+340), the 76ers (+380) and the Celtics (+550). Philadelphia traded for Jaylen Brown and signed LeBron James, reshaping the top of the conference.

In the division, the Pistons went 12-4 last season and open as the favorite in BetMGM’s Central Division odds at +105, with Cleveland at +170. The Indiana Pacers odds reflect a team expecting a rebound: Indiana went 19-63 last season, and books set its 2026-27 win total at 44.5. The Milwaukee Bucks odds point the other way, with BetMGM pricing Milwaukee at +30000 to win the division after a 32-50 season.

Detroit plays each Central rival four times, 16 of its 82 games. Division winners no longer receive a guaranteed top-four seed, so the race for the top six spots, which skip the 7-through-10 play-in, carries more betting weight than the banner. The Pistons’ NBA Cup games also count in the standings. Detroit drew East Group A with Toronto, Orlando, Milwaukee and Brooklyn, a softer draw than East Group B, which stacks New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Miami and Indiana.

Detroit Pistons 2026-27 win total

BetMGM set Detroit’s win total at 49.5, with the over at -105 and the under at -115. That sits 10.5 below last season’s 60 wins. The over implies 51.2% and the under 53.5%, a combined 104.7%. The heavier juice on the under tells you where money has landed at BetMGM so far, and it doesn’t settle which side cashes. Compare the number across books on VI’s NBA win totals page.

Books marked Detroit down for the depth it lost and for Duren’s missed offseason work. They also expect some regression: the Pistons led the league in opponent 3-point percentage last season, a stat that tends to drift back toward average.

The Pistons angle: Detroit’s schedule lists 15 back-to-backs, and seven of them finish on the road, at New Orleans, Atlanta, the Lakers, Cleveland, Phoenix, Milwaukee and Toronto. Last season the Pistons went 12-3 straight up on the second night of back-to-backs (8-7 ATS), so fatigue spots barely dented their record. The tougher test comes on two four-game western trips. The first opens at altitude in Denver on Jan. 3 and ends against the Lakers on Jan. 8. The second starts against the Clippers on Feb. 9 and finishes at altitude in Utah on Feb. 15. The NBA sets Detroit’s 81st and 82nd games after Cup group play.

Detroit Pistons 2026-27 futures odds

DraftKings opened Detroit at +2500 to win the 2027 NBA Finals in June and has since lengthened the price to +3300, the 11th-shortest on the board. At +3300 the implied probability is about 2.9%, so the bet only makes sense if you rate Detroit’s title chances higher. Shop the full market on VI’s NBA futures page.

FanDuel lists Cunningham at +2500 for MVP. DraftKings has Thompson at +2500 for Defensive Player of the Year, well behind favorite Victor Wembanyama. Thompson tied for the league lead with 2.0 steals per game last season, made the All-Defensive First Team and finished third in DPOY voting.

The Pistons angle: Cunningham played 64 games last season after a collapsed lung sidelined him, one short of the 65-game threshold for MVP and All-NBA. The NBA and the players’ union ruled him eligible in April on an extraordinary-circumstances challenge. Bettors shouldn’t count on a second exception, so his MVP ticket carries a games-played risk that the price needs to cover.

Betting Pistons point spreads

Books set a point spread to turn an uneven matchup into a roughly even bet. The favorite gives points, the underdog takes them.

Pistons -6.5 (-110) / Celtics +6.5 (-110)

The Pistons cover by winning the game by seven or more. The Celtics cover by winning outright or losing by six or fewer. The half-point means neither side can push. A winning $100 bet at -110 returns $190.91: the $100 stake plus $90.91 in profit. A losing bet returns nothing. Both sides here are priced at -110, and that is where the book earns. You risk $110 to win $100 whichever side you take. When books post a whole number instead, a game decided by exactly that margin pushes and both sides get their stake back.

Detroit went 44-38 against the spread last season for a profit of 2 units, tied for eighth by cover rate in VI’s NBA ATS rankings. The Pistons covered 21 of 41 at home and 23 of 41 on the road.

The Pistons angle: Detroit closed as an underdog in only 15 regular-season games and went 13-2 ATS in them, winning 12 outright. As a favorite, the Pistons went 31-36 ATS. Nearly all of last season’s ATS profit came from the market underrating Detroit as a dog. With a 49.5 win total, the Pistons will lay points most nights, so those spots will be scarce.

Betting Pistons totals

Books set a total for the combined points both teams score, then let bettors take a side. Say books post Pistons vs. Pacers at 226.5. The over cashes if the two teams combine for 227 or more. The under cashes at 226 or fewer. A half-point total cannot push. NBA totals follow pace. Two fast teams produce more possessions and more scoring chances, and that matters more to the number than either team’s shooting percentage.

Pistons games went over 38 times and under 43 times last season, with one push, and the average regular-season closing total was 227.6. In the playoffs, books dropped closing totals as low as 201.5 against Orlando.

Why Pistons totals move: Detroit’s defense sets the number more than its offense does. If opponents shoot closer to their norm from three, some of last season’s unders flip. The front office added Joe to fix the team’s spacing, which could lift Detroit’s own scoring. VI’s handicappers break down Pistons totals in their daily NBA picks.

Betting the Pistons moneyline

The moneyline asks one question: who wins. Points do not matter.

Pistons -240 / Bucks +200

Minus marks the favorite, plus the underdog. At -240 you risk $240 to win $100. At +200 you risk $100 to win $200.

Converting to implied probability makes the pricing clearer. The -240 favorite implies 70.6%. The +200 underdog implies 33.3%. Those sum to 103.9%, not 100%. The extra 3.9 points are the book’s margin, and the book collects it whichever side wins.

One thing worth getting straight: a short price is not automatically a bad bet. Bettors call heavy favorites bad value out of habit, but if the Pistons win this matchup 75% of the time, -240 is a price worth taking, because it only implies 70.6%. Value is the gap between real probability and priced probability. The size of the number tells you nothing on its own.

When one side carries heavier juice than the other, that tells you where money is landing, not which side is correct. If the Pistons drift from -240 to -270, bettors backed the Pistons and the book adjusted its exposure. The team did not become more likely to win.

VI’s betting odds calculator converts any moneyline to implied probability. A 49.5 win total implies Detroit wins about 60% of its games, so expect most Pistons moneylines to sit on the favorite side.

Pistons player props

A player prop prices one player’s production in one game.

Cade Cunningham points: 24.5 (over -115, under -105)

The over needs 25 points. The under needs 24 or fewer. NBA props respond to availability more than anything else. When a teammate is ruled out, his minutes and shots move to the players still on the floor, and books adjust within minutes of the news. Check the injury report before betting a prop, and check the book’s rules for a player who does not play, because they differ between books.

Cunningham missed 18 games last season, and his absence reshapes every Pistons line. Duren averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds over 70 games, but his contract standoff ran into camp, so check his early-season minutes before betting his rebound lines. Thompson posted his steals in roughly 26 minutes a night, and a bigger role would push his steals and rebounds lines up. Browse the full board on VI’s NBA player props page.

Pistons line movement: open versus consensus

VI’s odds board shows two numbers for every game. The Open is the first line posted by a Las Vegas or global book, and the Consensus is the median current line across VI’s books. When the consensus sits off the open, books have taken bets into a new number, and the direction shows where the money pushed.

Detroit’s Oct. 14 preseason game at Minnesota shows the mechanic. On VI’s NBA matchups page, the Timberwolves opened as 2.5-point favorites and the consensus settled at -4.5, a two-point move toward Minnesota. Books moved the moneyline with it, from Detroit +120 at the open to +142. The page’s head-to-head log shows Detroit winning both regular-season meetings with Minnesota last season and splitting them 1-1 ATS.

Preseason lines react to rotation news as much as to bets, so treat that move as a demonstration of the tool. The regular season starts Oct. 20, when the Celtics visit Little Caesars Arena for the league’s first game, and its open-versus-consensus gap will say more about how the market rates Detroit.
