Betting on the Portland Trail Blazers
Representing the country’s Great Northwest, the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers have become one that region’s most popular professional sports franchises. In recent years in states where sports betting is legal, they have also become a popular team to wager on.
Portland Trail Blazers Team Overview
The origins of the Trail Blazers date back to 1970. They entered the NBA as an expansion franchise ahead of that year’s regular season with Rolland Todd as the team’s head coach.
Portland sat on the sidelines for the first six seasons in the league without a postseason appearance. However, behind NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton, the Trail Blazers made up for lost time by winning the 1977 NBA Championship.
With Jack Ramsay as head coach, Portland beat the Philadelphia 76ers 4-2 in that best-of-seven championship series.
The Trail Blazers remained a perennial playoff team right through the early 2000’s with a return trip to the NBA Finals in 1992. This time they came up short against the Chicago Bulls in a 4-2 series loss.
More recently, Damian Lillard was recognized as the team’s most famous player for a long time period. With his help, Portland has made regular trips to the postseason with various levels of success.
In 2019, the Trail Blazers got as far as the Western Conference Finals but they could not get past the Golden State Warriors.
Now that Lillard is not on the Trail Blazers anymore, fans can enjoy watching new young players at the helm.
Portland plays in the NBA’s Northwest Division. Natural rivalries exist against the Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder. However, given the team’s location on the West Coast, heated contests against any California team can be added to the list.
The most common way to bet on any Portland matchup against another NBA team is using the point spread bet. For example, if the Trail Blazers happen to be set as five-point home favorites against the Nuggets, they would have to beat Denver by six or more points to cash a winning bet.

Sports betting has been legal in Oregon since 2019. At first, the Oregon Lottery controlled all online betting through the Scoreboard mobile sportsbook app.
Oregon regulators decided to move in a new direction by bringing in DraftKings as the sole commercial mobile sportsbook operator across the state. This changeover has benefited Trail Blazers’ fans looking for a more convenient way to legally wager on the games.
Oregon also offers legal retail sports betting through sportsbooks located in land-based tribal casinos such as Chinook Winds.
