Tennessee Titans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions

The Titans are coming off a 20-0 victory at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars, posting a cover as 8.5-point favorites while putting the final nail in the coffin of head coach Urban Meyer. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak, while the cover also ended an 0-3 ATS slide. There has been something off with the Tennessee offense lately, however, averaging just 15.3 PPG across the past three outings. A lot has to be with the fact RB Derrick Henry (foot) remains on the reserve/Injured list, with WR A.J. Brown (chest) also sidelined. The Julio Jones trade hasn't worked out like the Titans had hoped, and this offense really has been rather pedestrian lately.

The Steelers have dropped three of the past four games to fall into the basement of the AFC North Division, including a 36-28 loss at Minnesota last Thursday in Week 14 as 3.5-point underdogs. The defense has really struggled, allowing 36, 19, 41 and 41 across the past four outings, too. The good news is that LB T.J. Watt (groin) was able to go through a full practice Thursday and Friday, and he is off the injury report. CB Joe Haden (foot) is questionable, although he progressed to a full practice Friday, too.

Tennessee Titans Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 9-4
  • ATS: 8-5
  • O/U: 7-6
  • ATS - Away: 4-2

The Titans head into this one failing to cover its most recent road game at New England, losing 36-13 as a 7.5-point underdog. It was a rare non-cover away from home, as Tennessee was 4-1 ATS in five games on the road.

The Titans enter this one 5-1 ATS in the past six games as an underdog, while going 5-2 ATS in the past seven meetings against an AFC team, too. In addition, Tennessee is 5-2 ATS in the past seven games as a road 'dog, too.

As far as the total, it's been all OVER all the time lately for the Titans. The OVER is 16-5 in the past 21 games on the road, while going 7-1 in the past eight as a road underdog, too. The OVER is 10-3 in the past 13 games overall as a 'dog. In addition, the OVER is 7-0 in the past seven games after a straight-up victory of 14 or more points.

Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 6-6-1
  • ATS: 5-8
  • O/U: 5-8
  • ATS - Home: 2-5

The Steelers have dropped three of the past four outings since a 16-16 tie against the Detroit Lions back in Week 10. That's 2-2 ATS across the past four outings, too. The defense has really struggled, and need to pull it together to keep the team's flickering playoff hopes alive.

The Steelers have done well in the past five against winning teams, going 4-1 ATS. However, the Steelers are 2-6 ATS in the previous eight games at home, while going 0-9 ATS in the past nine outings as a favorite. They're also a dismal 2-8 ATS in the past 10 games in the month of December, while going 1-1 ATS in December so far this season.

For totals, the OVER is 3-1 in the past four outings overall, but most of the trends for the Steelers point to the UNDER. The UNDER has cashed in five of the past seven games at home, while going 4-1 in the past five as a favorite. The UNDER is 9-4 in the past 13 games in December, too.

Tennessee Titans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Conclusion

The Titans have really struggled recently, as the offense has had an inexplicable power outage. It appears the loss of Brown in the receiving game, and the continued absence of Henry, has really started to catch up with the team lately. Opposing defenses are keying on Jones, taking him out of game, forcing others to step up and beat them. It hasn't really happened. WR Geoff Swaim actually led the team with 45 receiving yards last week, and QB Ryan Tannehill threw for 191 yards with one rushing touchdown. But the defense bailed them out in a low-scoring affair.

The Steelers are at home in a must-win game. Even if they're able to win, it might not make a difference, but a loss will more than likely mean they're not going to make the playoffs. The time is now, and this defense will catch a break against a Titans team missing several key pieces on offense. Pittsburgh is going to grind out a lower-scoring defensive game, which just about sums up Steelers football.
