  • Opening moneyline: Central Florida -220/Georgia Tech +180

UPDATE 11:30 A.M. ET FRIDAY, DEC. 22: On game day, Central Florida is 5.5-point chalk in BetMGM's college football bowl odds market. Back on Dec. 4, the Knights opened -6.5 and dropped to their low point of -4.5 within a few hours.

UCF rebounded to -5.5 Wednesday and briefly got to -6 Thursday, before backing up to -5.5/-4.5 (-115). The line returned to -5.5 this morning. Spread tickets and money are just shy of 2/1 on the Knights.

On the flipside, moneyline tickets and cash are in the 2/1 range on Georgia Tech.

The total opened at 61 and slowly but steadily climbed the last two-plus weeks, landing at 67 this morning. Ticket count is almost 2.5/1 and money 9/1 on the Over.

UPDATE 2 P.M. ET WEDNESDAY, DEC. 20: Both teams have a handful of transfer-portal players, but that's not impacting the spread as much as in other games thus far. DraftKings opened Central Florida -5.5 for the Gasparilla Bowl and bottomed out at -4.5 a couple times over the last two weeks.

The Knights (6-6 SU/5-6-1 ATS) are now -5, while taking 54% of tickets/51% of money. Georgia Tech is 6-6 SU/7-5 ATS.

DraftKings' total has seen much more movement, pretty much all upward. The number opened at 61.5 Dec. 4 and advanced to 64 that same day. Since then, it's slowly made its way to the current peak of 66.5. The Over is landing 58% of tickets and a hefty 90% of dollars.

Gasparilla Bowl Pick, Prediction

Action Network college football betting expert Collin Wilson offers this prediction:

These teams will mirror each other in offensive strategy, with one program creating more explosives to pick up victories.

Georgia Tech is a top-25 rushing team in terms of Success Rate, ranking sixth in Line Yards behind running back Jamal Haynes.

UCF utilizes the rush on nearly 60% of offensive snaps, ranking 20th in Rushing Success Rate with running back RJ Harvey and quarterback John Rhys Plumlee.

Neither Georgia Tech nor UCF have been able to defend the run all season, but limiting explosive plays is the handicap in the Gasparilla Bowl. UCF ranks 13th in rush explosives, compared to Georgia Tech at 41st.

With a heavy advantage in Quality Drives, look for UCF to mow its way to victory.

Pick: UCF -4.5

Gasparilla Bowl History

The Gasparilla Bowl began in 2008 and the matchup currently features schools from the American Athletic Conference (AAC), Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) or Conference USA. The game takes place at Tropicana Field from St. Petersburg, Florida. This game was previously called the magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl, Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl and Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl.

Favorites have gone 10-2 straight up and 9-3 against the spread in the first 12 years. The 'under' has produced a 7-4 mark during this span. Central Florida and Marshall are tied for the most appearances in this bowl with four apiece.

Marshall kept the 'chalk' streak rolling in the 2018 installment with a 38-20 over South Florida, who was playing in its home venue.

UCF made the short trip from Orlando in 2019 and rolled past Marshall, 48-25 to easily cash as 15-point favorites. The Thundering Herd suffered its first loss in this bowl in four tries.

The 2020 installment was wiped out due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, but the game returned Dec. 23, 2021 with a sold-out Raymond James Stadium for UCF against Florida.

UCF is starting to enjoy themselves in the home of rival USF, too, as they won their second straight Gasparilla Bowl in front of 63,669 fans with a 29-17 victory over the Gators.

UCF is the first underdog to win this bowl game outright since NC State topped UCF in the 2014 game in St. Petersburg.

The ACC has won the last two Gasparilla Bowl games with Georgia Tech's 30-17 win over UCF in the 2023 installment. The 'under' has also cashed in three straight with the losing team being held to exactly 17 points in each of those decisions.
