UPDATE 1:30 P.M. ET MONDAY, DEC. 18: An hour before kickoff, Old Dominion is out to 5.5-point chalk in DraftKings Sportsbook's college football bowl odds market. That's in large part due to the absence of a host of Western Kentucky players today. Among them: QB Austin Reed and backup QB Caden Veltkamp.

When this game opened on Dec. 3, the Hilltoppers were 1-point favorites. A day later, the line had already jumped the fence to Monarchs -2. It spent much of the last couple weeks at -2.5, then Friday went to -3/-3.5/-4. The line peaked at ODU -6.5 this morning, before receding to -5.5.

Spread tickets are dead even, while 63% of spread money is on Old Dominion.

With all the missing players, the total is down to 48.5 from a 55.5 opener and 56 high point Dec. 4. Most of the movement came since Saturday, when the total was at 54. The Over is getting 56% of tickets, and 57% of money is on the Under.

UPDATE MIDNIGHT ET FRIDAY, DEC. 15: This line quickly jumped the fence on Dec. 4 at BetMGM, going from the Western Kentucky -1.5 opener to Old Dominion -1.5. The Monarchs spent most of the past 11 days at -2.5, then today went to -3/-3.5.

Old Dominion is landing 81% of spread bets/89% of spread dollars.

The total opened at 57.5, dropped to 55.5 in short order and went to 54.5 Thursday. Tickets and money are beyond 9/1 on the Under.

Famous Toastery Bowl Pick, Prediction

Action Network college football betting expert Collin Wilson offers this prediction:

Western Kentucky logged just one win over a bowl team this season: South Florida. That's a stark contrast to an Old Dominion team that caught fire during November, ending the season with four wins over bowl teams.

Nearly every contributor to the offensive line is in the transfer portal for Western Kentucky, leaving quarterback Austin Reed with no protection against an Old Dominion defense that's top-25 in the red zone.

Old Dominion features a heavy rush offense that excels in creating explosives through quarterback Grant Wilson and the running back tandem of Keshawn Wicks and Kadarius Callaway.

Any team that can establish the ground game is always a threat to beat a very poor Hilltoppers defense.

Pick: Old Dominion -2.5

Famous Toastery Bowl History

Bahamas Bowl Logo

The Bahamas Bowl began in 2014, and the matchup currently features schools from Conference USA and the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The game takes place at Thomas Robinson Stadium from Nassau, Bahamas.

Western Kentucky captured the inaugural Bahamas Bowl with a 49-48 victory against Central Michigan. This outcome was considered as one of the worst "Bad Beats" in college football history. The Hilltoppers led 42-14 at halftime and by as many as 35 only to see the Chippewas score 34 unanswered points to pull within one point. CMU decided to go for the win instead of overtime and lost in regulation as the conversion failed, but they covered as short underdogs.

The MAC avenged that loss in 2015, as Western Michigan captured a 45-31 victory. The 'over' cashed for the second consecutive year.

Conference USA won three of the first five meetings in the Bahamas Bowl, which includes Old Dominion's 24-20 victory over Eastern Michigan in the 2016 installment. UAB fell short in a 41-6 blowout to Ohio in 2017 as neither conference has won in consecutive years since the inception of this bowl.

C-USA was back at it again in 2018, as Florida International upended Toledo 35-32 as seven-point underdogs despite the fact they were missing their starting quarterback. The high-scoring victory by FIU also snapped a two-year 'under' run, getting back to the first two installments of this game which went well over.

The 2019 installment was affected by wind gusts as Buffalo captured a dominating 31-9 win over Charlotte while the 'under' (52) was never in doubt.

The COVID-19 global pandemic wiped out this game in 2020 due to international travel restrictions, but the game returned in 2021.

On Dec. 17, 2021, the Bahamas Bowl was back to kick off the postseason, with Middle Tennessee posting a 31-24 victory over Toledo as 10.5-point underdogs, earning Conference USA the first victory of bowl season, and the MAC opening with the first loss. C-USA exacted a little revenge for the embarrassing 2019 loss.

The 2023 Bahama Bowl was renamed the Famous Toastery Bowl and the outcome was a wild one as Western Kentucky rallied past Old Dominion for a 38-35 overtime victory.
